Finbourne is a London-based technology startup that builds advanced data-driven software for the asset management industry.

Working closely with Finbourne’s product and development teams, our goal was ambitious: to re-think LUSID, the company’s cloud-based asset management software, with the aim of dramatically simplifying the complex and data-heavy web application in order to drive growth by reducing the barrier-to-entry for less tech-literate users.

"We believe the investment management industry has not benefited from the innovations seen in other sectors… consider what Spotify did for music, or Netflix for online television"

Thomas McHugh - CEO, Finbourne

What We Did

  • User experience review, strategy, and implementation
  • Interface design for the LUSID web application
  • Digital rebranding

The result was a modular-inspired interface and streamlined user experience that has helped Finbourne in securing major partnerships with five leading financial institutions with over $2 trillion assets under management, winning a “Water’s Technology Award’, and being named ‘one of the 20 most influential FinTech companies of 2019’.

The modular dashboard allows you to track your portfolio holdings in different ways, making it easy to analyse trading activity by investment strategy:

Every transaction or data change is permanently recorded in a bi-temporal data store. The impact of any change on holdings, then or now, is instantly available. All events in LUSID are recorded for Business Intelligence and auditing purposes:

LUSID has a full bi-temporal event history of the portfolios in question, so you can see differences on your event timeline and swap the inputs used to value the portfolio (e.g. data source feeds) making it simple to reconcile one variable at a time:

LUSID’s ‘Recipes’ let you swap the inputs (e.g. data source feeds) used to value the portfolio, making it simple to reconcile one variable at a time:
